Description

Somatic Water Dance ( Water Dance Therapy)

Winter 2026 Series (Dec - Feb)

Tuesdays 11 - 1.15

Our bodies carry the effects of our experiences, emotions and habitual ways of responding to the world. Many of these patterns operate unconsciously, shaping how we move, behave, relate to others and respond to different situations.

Somatic water movement is a group practice that uses movement, improvisation and bodily awareness to explore these patterns and develop a deeper understanding of ourselves.

The support and freedom of water allow us to move beyond our usual habits, release tensions,  explore new ways of being in the body and notice what emerges when we let go of the need to control our movements.

Through guided movement, moments of stillness, bodily awareness and creative exploration, we bring attention to our physical sensations, impulses and emotional responses. The group setting offers an opportunity to uncover unconscious patterns that are held in relation to other, and to discover and reflect on these body mind states.

Sessions can support:

- Embodiment: developing a deeper connection with the body, its sensations, impulses and needs.

- Recognising unconscious patterns: noticing habitual ways of moving, behaving and responding, and reflecting on how these patterns may appear in everyday life.

- Releasing tension: allowing the body to soften, move freely and explore alternatives to habitual muscular holding.

- Nervous system regulation: creating opportunities for relaxation, grounding and a shift out of habitual states of tension or alertness.

- Emotional expression: exploring and releasing emotions through movement

- Freedom and play: discovering new ways of moving, relating and expressing yourself beyond familiar patterns.

- Deepening Skills in Underwater Movement for artistic expression

Rather than focusing on how movement looks, we pay attention to how it feels from within. We explore what happens when we slow down, follow bodily sensations and allow movement to emerge organically.
