Description

23–31 October 2026 | Expedition "Through Ancient Paths" , by Hunak Journeys

Join Hunak Journeys for a small-group journey through South Sinai, centred around a 6-day / 5-night supported hiking expedition across the deserts and mountains surrounding Saint Catherine.

Designed to experience Sinai slowly and on foot, the expedition follows ancient desert and mountain routes while creating opportunities to spend time with the Bedouin communities whose lives and traditions remain closely connected to these landscapes.

The journey

We begin with a night at a local farm near Nuweiba, surrounded by olive trees and horses. It is a quiet beginning: time to meet the group, rest and prepare before entering the desert.

From there, we set out on a 6-day / 5-night hiking expedition, moving on foot through remote valleys, desert plateaus and mountain trails towards the Saint Catherine area.

We walk an average of approximately 15 km per day. The rhythm is physically active but non-technical, and is suitable for people who are comfortable hiking for several consecutive days. No technical climbing or mountaineering experience is required.

During the expedition we will also climb two non-technical summits chosen from Jabal Saint Catherine, Jabal Abbas and Jabal Moussa, depending on the route, conditions and the group.

Nights are spent in simple desert camps and remote locations, with meals and logistical support provided by the local Bedouin team accompanying us throughout the expedition.

After six days on the trail, we return to the farm near Nuweiba for a second night: time to rest, eat together and slow down after the crossing. Travellers can also take part in a horsemanship experience focused on groundwork, trust and communication with horses.

The journey then concludes in Dahab by the Red Sea.

Who is it for?
This expedition is for people who enjoy being outdoors and are curious to experience Sinai beyond its most familiar side.

You do not need advanced trekking or climbing experience, but you should be comfortable:

  • walking around 15 km per day on desert and mountain terrain;
  • spending several consecutive days outdoors;
  • sleeping in simple desert camps;
  • travelling with a small group and adapting to the natural rhythm of an expedition.

The hiking is non-technical, but this remains an active multi-day journey rather than a sightseeing tour.

Group size
Maximum 10 travellers, allowing us to keep the expedition personal and flexible.

Why this journey?

Sinai is much more than the coastline most visitors know. Beyond it lies an ancient landscape of desert valleys, high mountains and old routes shaped over centuries by the peoples and communities who have inhabited and crossed this land.

Hunak designed this expedition as a way to experience that Sinai slowly and from within.

Walking is at the centre of the journey. Moving through the desert on foot allows us to share routes used for generations, observe how local Bedouin communities navigate and relate to the land, spend time together along the way, listen and learn.

The landscape itself is part of the experience. Long valleys, granite mountains and open desert naturally invite a different rhythm — one that leaves time to slow down, contemplate and absorb what surrounds us.

Rather than simply visiting a series of places, the aim is to create proximity to the land and to the communities that have shaped life within it.

About Hunak Journeys

Hunak Journeys is a small tour operator specialising in outdoor journeys through remote landscapes and cultures.

Our journeys are built around a simple idea: outdoor activities can change the way we encounter a place. Walking gives us time to observe, ask questions, share routes and draw closer to landscapes and to the people whose lives are connected to them.

In Sinai, that means leaving the coast behind for a few days and entering a land shaped by desert life, Bedouin traditions, ancient routes and centuries of encounter and coexistence.

If you are based in Dahab and would like to join us in October, request your place now or contact Hunak to receive the full itinerary and practical information.

Special price: €1,300 per traveller for bookings made by 16 September 2026.

Places are limited to a maximum of 10 travellers.
