Join a beach cleanup happening EVERY DAY!

Hi everyone, and welcome to the Dahab Beach Cleanup. 🐢🏝️👋 We started this volunteer-only, non-profit community initiative in response to the growing beach litter crisis in Dahab.

NOTE: We are *on a break* from community cleanups until Wednesday, January 14.

What we do:

-official community beach cleanup every Wednesday at 7am. The meeting point is at Mirage beach, and we move northward until 9am. Bags/gloves provided. ✨
-informal daily pickups at 7am. Bring your own gear, or grab bags/gloves from the box at Mirage beach - you'll probably find other people but you might be flying solo. 🌅🌊

What we've done so far:

-removed 1,300+ bags (91,000 liters) of trash from the beaches north of Lighthouse 🦾

-added six full-size trash cans and 33 small trash cans to the beaches north of Lighthouse: two full-size and nine small at Mirage beach, one full-size at the beach north of Dahab Hotel, one full-size at Eel Garden beach, one full-size at southern Assalah beach, 24 small tied to lamp posts along the Eel Garden mamsha leading into southern Assalah beach, and one full-size at Assalah beach cleaning station 🗑️

-set up two 'cleaning stations', one at Mirage beach and the other at Assalah beach, each equipped with a box with free bags and gloves, restocked regularly 🚮🧤

-set up two 'Lost and Found' boxes (one at Mirage beach and one at Assalah beach), where people can place items found on the beach - nothing valuable, but cheaper items like lighters, single shoes, hair accessories, small toys, etc. 🕵️‍♀️🔍

-posted 19 community signs (eight Arabic, eight bilingual English/Arabic, and three English) to raise awareness, all encouraging beach cleanliness 👩‍🎨🎨

-built a 'cigarette cyborg' out of 8,200+ (around 48 liters) of cigarette butts collected from Dahab beaches north of Lighthouse, displayed at Mirage beach along with a bilingual "Is it really 'just one'?" educational exhibition
