You already know that the diving, kite-surfing and climbing in Dahab are world-class, so let’s skip all of that and cut to the heart of Dahab. These are the things we sometimes forget to experience in our rush to get through all the amazing activities available in Dahab.
1. Do nothing
Yes, seriously. Find yourself a quiet spot and just be there. No fancy meditations needed. Listen to the water, notice the pebbles, feel the breeze. Just be. That’s what many of us are actually here for!
2. Wander the wadis
Nothing like a sunrise/sunset stroll through the wadis (valleys) that surround Dahab. The ones to the north (behind Bedouin Moon hotel and Dahab Paradise hotel) are easily accessible by foot. You may want to pick up a copy of the local guide to the flora and fauna, Wandering through Wadis, or Dahab’s Walking And Scrambling guide, bothavailable at the Neptune bookshop. A simple wander can work wonders.
3. Make a furry friend, goats included
There’s no shortage of cuddles when it comes to Dahab’s cats and dogs. Please, if you decide to adopt one, treat it like your child and don’t leave it behind. Unfortunately some animals are abandoned when their owners leave Dahab, creating a wide variety of problems. Local groups like Animal Welfare Dahab and Dahab Cats are doing great work, if you would like to support them
4. Get to know the local Bedouins
Dahab is what it is thanks to its indigenous inhabitants. They are kind, extremely hospitable and full of local knowledge. Be mindful of cultural norms. It is generally disrespectful for a man to approach a Bedouin woman.
5. Get lost and find familiar faces
Everything here is within walking distance, and that includes those people that were at your yoga class last week, or the ones you saw at that restaurant last night. You’ll soon realize that walking around Dahab means running into a lot of people. Sit down together, have a chat and become part of the community!
You get the idea. Dahab invites you to slow down, leave your plans behind and go with the flow.
